We all know that there is an abundance of restaurants in Pattaya many of which are of the highest standard. In previous articles, we have covered the different types of food so on this occasion we will look at those places that offer something just that little bit different. You would maybe visit these restaurants more for their character and ambience as opposed to the quality of their food although this is of a very high standard.
Cabbages & Condoms
Cabbages and Condoms is certainly something different and is located at the bottom of Pratamnak Soi 4 on the seafront. Condoms are quite literally everywhere but there is a very good reason for this and that is to raise awareness of HIV and AIDS. The profits all go to charity and this is an excellent cause. The food and setting are also excellent with plenty of parking available.
Sketchbook Art Café
This is a leafy, relaxed venue where artists would really feel at home and can be found just off Thappraya Road. The furniture is all recycled and the atmosphere is unique and friendly. The menu is wide and varied especially when you consider the size of the place with the food being of the highest quality.

Cadillac Café and Bar
The Cadillac Café is located in The Wave Hotel on Pattaya Beach Road and has a very American diner feel about it as you would imagine by the name. There are very few bars that manage to capture this real 1950’s feel and for this reason, it offers just that something different.
Thepprasit Market
Although not strictly a restaurant this is something of an eclectic mix of food stalls. Here you will find almost all the Thai food that you can imagine served in very Thai surroundings. What makes this unusual is that it is genuine traditional Thai experience where you get to soak up the sights, sounds and smells in an unspoilt environment.
Magg’s Restaurant
Magg’s is popular with expats in Jomtien. It couldn’t be more un-Thai if they tried and this perhaps to adds to its appeal. To say it is basic would perhaps be a fair description but the food is excellent and the atmosphere friendly. The Sunday roast deserves a special mention and is excellently priced. This is a small venue so make sure you get in early.
Rimpa Lapin
Rimpa Lapin is a superb restaurant located in Na Jomtien that is the complete opposite of Magg’s. What makes this unusual is the excellent sea views and the all-round ambience in a magnificent setting. The food is described as Thai-fusion which is again something that is a little bit unique so the combination of the setting and the slightly unusual food means that it is deserving of being on the list.
