Pattaya is awash with fantastic restaurants serving excellent food from around the globe. It is not surprising then, especially with the number of Chinese nationals that Pattaya welcomes, that there are some excellent Chinese restaurants in the city. Some serve authentic Chinese food whilst others serve the cuisine with more of a western slant. Whichever your preference, you can be sure that you will find a restaurant that caters for your tastes. Here are our 5 recommendations.
Shanghai Restaurant Pattaya
The Shanghai Restaurant is tucked away in Naklua Soi 16/3 and is something of a hidden gem. All of the food is cooked fresh as opposed to many places where it is served more in a buffet style catering for groups who arrive by coach. As everything is cooked fresh, they are happy to modify their dishes to cater for vegetarians and vegans which is something that appeals to a wider audience than one might imagine. The prices are very reasonable and the service is efficient although the level of English spoken varies.
Baan Plai Haad
Naklua
Luxury 1 bedroom for rent below market price close to Shanghai restaurant
Yi Pin Lou Chinese Restaurant
Yi Pin Lou is located on Pattaya 3rd Road and has quite an upmarket feel about it with a fountain superbly positioned in the centre of the room. Again, this is a restaurant that doesn’t really cater for coach parties which many will find appealing and prides itself very much on the quality of the food that they serve as opposed to the quantity. It is slightly more expensive but this is a fair reflection on the quality of the food and the overall ambience.
Bali Hai Chinese & Seafood
Located at the Siam Bayshore Hotel at the southern end of Walking Street, this Chinese definitely has more of a hotel feel about it. It offers some excellent views towards Bali Hai and the food is of a higher standard as if the quality of the service. The prices are very fair considering that this is in a hotel and is a great place to go prior to taking in the nightlife of Walking Street.
Unixx Condo
Pratamnak
Cosy 2 bedrooms condo at a very reasonable rental price in one of the most convenient location in town
Huang Chow
The Huang Chow is located in the Royal Cliff Hotel, so, as you would imagine serves food of the highest quality with prices to reflect this. Again this is a restaurant that doesn’t really cater for coach parties with all food being freshly prepared to order. The service is magnificent and the food excellent with many dishes having more of western feel as well as having some more authentic dishes.
Soho Town
Whilst not a restaurant in its own right, Soho Town has evolved in a small Chinatown where you can certainly get more authentic Chinese street dining. The area is adorned by Chinese lanterns and is a great place to try. It can be found on Pattaya 2nd Road next to and opposite the Ibis Hotel.
Conclusion
In reality, when it comes to a completely western-style Chinese restaurants, the options in fairly limited making this perhaps an area that others care to exploit. Yes, we have a few excellent options that have opened but they have nearly all sadly fallen by the wayside over recent months and years. You can get more Western-style Chinese food but this is often a special served at the British and Irish themed pubs and is over often limited to one dish.
